Crypto currencies - an actual asset class.
The jury is out, at least for us, on whether crypto currencies have any real value. But, the statistics tell another story. While small relative to the value of US equities, real estate and treasuries, crypto currencies have overtaken the value of US currency in circulation and are threatening to overtake the value of cash in US checking and savings accounts. Crypto currencies are also now worth about 26% of worldwide gold reserves, up from 19% only one year ago, which begs a couple of questions:
